Ahhh.. nothing better than sitting outside on a lovely day, watching the water... cold beverage and warm brat in hand. The Wisconsin Union, only a couple blocks from the Lowell Center, sits right on Lake Mendota. It's a lovely, lovely place and a MUST see while you are in Madison.
On summer weekend days, there is a beer and brat stand outside on the terrace. There are additional excellent food options inside the Union.
Inside the Union, check out Der Rathskeller, which is a german-style beer-, dining-, and gathering "hall". Gail spent many days studying here in front of the fire. Dark and cozy. Your German roots will be proud!
Also inside the Union, make sure to grab some Babcock Hall Ice Cream from the Daily Scoop. Gail's favorite flavor is chocolate peanut butter... oh my word.. so good.
Note: To buy alcohol, you must fill out a guest pass which they will hand you before you order. Just name, address, etc and you're good to go! This is a Wisconsin law thing.. it's worth it!
