The Dane County Farmer's Market is the largest producer-only market in the country! This is our favorite thing to do in Madison. All the food. All the produce. Coffee, baked goods, produce, art, honey, meat, flowers.. fresh cheese curds.. it's mind-blowingly awesome.
The Dane County Farmer's market is located around the Capitol Square (.8 miles from the Lowell Center) and runs from 6:15 to 1:45 pm. It does get busy on Saturday so getting there early-ish is advisable. We'll be meeting people in the hotel lobby around 8:30 am to walk up together, or some folks may want to take a short bus ride (Gail will probably go with Jeanine on the bus). A bus runs up State Street to the Capitol Square every 30 minutes ($2 adults, $1 seniors, children under 5 free).
Pop into to look at the Capitol Building while you're there. It's the largest in the country!
Pro Tips: Vendors do have bags but it's nice to bring your own shopping bag. Also, the flow of traffic generally goes counterclockwise. There are restrooms in the capitol building.

Our favorite vendor is Chris and Lori's Bakehouse. They make the "Cronut" which is donut-shaped scone-like thing with mini-chocolate chips and an almond-flavored frosting. MANY other scone flavors as well. Find them on the northeast side of the Capitol Building.
Check out this youtube video describing what's available at the market.
